Mnubi is a 17 year old student from Moshi, Tanzania. He currently attends a private school through Mr. Huber's sponsoring. The students from the 2016 PDW met Mnubi as he took part in our work at the school, stayed with us in Arusha and went on a safari in Ngorongoro with us.
Seven months after meeting Mnubi in Tanzania, I arranged an interview with him over a Facebook Messenger call. Here is our conversation:
ISZL: How was the week you spent with us and what did you think of the students from ISZL?
Mnubi: The week with you was really nice. I liked the lifestyles of the students and I felt like they all loved each other. It was my first time leaving my hometown of Moshi, going to Arusha was an amazing experience for me. I found the safari very cool.
ISZL: You used to go to a public school, how is it different to the private school?
Mnubi: The government school was not as nice. There was no real school equipment and many kids in one class. I prefer the school I am in now, I enjoy biology the most. I stay at the school because it is far from where I live and it takes a lot of time to get here.
ISZL: What are your plans after school?
Mnubi: I am going to Dar Es Salaam to study engineering in university. I am interested in how houses are built and would like to know more about it too.
ISZL: Is there anything you would like to say to Mr. Huber or other people from ISZL?
Mnubi: I would like to send my greetings to everyone I met. I would also like to tell Mr. Huber that I miss him and I am looking forward to seeing him again. Unfortunately, he doesn't have social media so I can't talk to him a lot.
Can I ask you some questions too?
Kristian: Yes of course, go ahead.
Mnubi: Do you wear uniforms in school? And how long does it take for you to get to school?
Kristian: No, we don't have uniforms, but sometimes everyone dresses up in blue and white, they are the colors of our school. I am lucky to live very close to school so it only takes me about 10 minutes with the bus to get there.
Mnubi: Did you like Tanzania?
Kristian: Yes, of course. Going to Tanzania was an amazing experience, it was very cool to be able to meet you and to discover a totally different culture and lifestyle.
