My name is Lúcás Rohan, and as part of my service learning in Grade 9 I have been creating Maasai inspired music, for the Tanzania project. When Mr. Huber and other students travelled to Tanzania to visit the people they had been supporting, they recorded videos of the Maasai children performing traditional song and dance, and I have used these as starting points for songs. I changed the videos into sound files, and using my music equipment, the Maschine Mikro and a MIDI keyboard, I sampled the pieces of the videos I wanted to use, recorded them, and built songs around them, using piano and drum sounds. I performed this at the ISZL High School Arts Week, and my hope is that by doing more performances like this, as well as distributing the music online, I can raise awareness for the Tanzania Project. I called the video "Rafiki" which is Swahili and means "Friend". Below is a recording of the song.
