After a long nice evening with Thorsten and Karina I went to bed a bit later then planned. Hence getting up at 5:30 felt tough. I jumped into the sea before I packed up. I was on the road at around 6:15. My plan was to get the ferry over to the main land at 6:45. I thought the port would be right around the corner. Turned out I was wrong. When I arrived the ferry had just left so I had to wait for an hour. I used the time to have some breakfast.
The mainland welcomed me with a 300 meter steep incline to the main road. Thankfully the main road was not busy at all. The views down to the sea were stunning. I stopped multiple times to take pictures. After about an hour I decended to the Prizna to take the ferry over to to Pag, another island. I was lucky as the ferry there was just ready to board. I cycled by the cue of cars and got on first.
Arriving on Pag was a change of scenery. The island on this side is a moonlike scenery with only rocks and now plants. The rocks and the tarmac road reflected the heat so that the 200 meter incline into the island made me feel like I was in a sauna but the scenery and the road through the bright yellow rocks made me forget about the pain. It felt like I landed in a totally different world.
After about 10 kilometers I hit the next main road and took direction south towards Pag, the biggest town of the island. The temperature now had picked up considerately and the constant up and down was starting to takes its toll on me. Shortly before Pag there was another long and fairly steep incline. At the top I was rewarded with a beautiful view of Pag from above. I took a few pictures and cycled down into the town to take a longer break. I considered staying there and taking an apartment as the heat was almost unbearable now. After I had relaxed a bit I decided to cycle on a bit more to get to a camp ground about 15 kilometres further out in Povljana. The road to there was mainly flat and I had slight back wind. After a last short climb I arrived at the town and went to the camp ground where I set up camp.
I love arriving at camp grounds, especially at smaller ones. You immediately meet people and everybody is very helpful in helping me out with small items that I cannot bring along, like a hammer or washing powder.
I washed my clothes and then headed down to the beach where I will enjoy the rest of my evening.
