Day 11: Rest day in Rijeka

The room I have in Croatia is air conditioned. This is a real blessing as the heat today was unbearable. Walking outside is like walking into an oven. Not that I know how that would really feel but I guess just like that.
I started my day with a sleep in and then went to have breakfast and do my laundry at a laundromat. The travel washing is ok but after a while you don’t quite get the clothes clean, especially not in small washing basins. I walked around to look at the city and take some pictures. I have to say that Rijeka is not a really beautiful city. It feels quite busy everywhere and except for the main shopping alley in the town centre most parts are quite run down or dominated by concrete buildings from the 70ies and 80ies. I found the street art around various parts of the town the most interesting. These probably are so frequently seen because of Rijeka’s status as cultural capital in 2020.
Tomorrow will be an early start again. If it will be as hot as today I will need to finish by 12. It looks like a thunderstorm is approaching. Maybe this will help to cool the temperature down a bit.
I would like to thank everybody who is supporting this ride and helping to raise funds for the organisation “Because We Carry”. They do a tremendous job on Lesbos in Greece to make the life of refugees in the camp Kara Tepe somewhat liveably. Thanks to everybody who donated on my donation platform or gave money before I left. If you are interested in the organisation you can check out their website here.
